US Open Market Brief — Friday 11 September 2026. Snapshot ~12:05–12:15 BST ahead of the 14:30 BST / 09:30 ET cash bell. Author: Samuel Leach. Prices re-verified against Yahoo Finance (~11:53–12:04 BST), ONS (UK July GDP), Oracle / Adobe earnings wires, and Reuters / Seeking Alpha futures colour. Fresh research into the New York open — not a rewrite of this morning’s live brief. August CPI has not printed — BLS is due ~13:30 BST. Reject any “already printed” farm claims.

Morning priced oil near $110 into CPI. Into the US cash bell, that scare has faded — and the inflation print is still the referee.

That is the reopen map in one line. Yahoo marks Brent futures near $103.53 (~11:53 BST), down from this morning’s London park near $108.52 and well off Reuters’ overnight four-month high near $109.97. WTI sits near $98.88 versus morning ~$103.21. US equity futures have used that oil offer: S&P e-minis near 7,639 (about +0.5% vs Thursday’s ~7,598 prior), Nasdaq 100 near 29,310 (about +0.6%), Dow near 52,380 (about +0.5%), Russell near 2,910. VIX indication near 17.23 is softer than Thursday’s 17.84 cash close. Soft oil under a still-hot September hike case is a recovery attempt, not a clean risk-on reset — New York size and the CPI wire decide which story wins the afternoon.

Situation

FX into the bell: euro near 1.1597, sterling near 1.3507, USD/JPY near 153.93, dollar index near 99.18. US 10-year last marked near 4.944% on Yahoo (Thursday cash stamp; Reuters overnight colour had probed toward ~4.97%). Gold futures near $4,382 — off this morning’s softer ~$4,347 park but still below Thursday’s ~$4,407 prior. Bitcoin near $76.9k is secondary. Thursday’s cash closes remain the base: S&P 7,591.7 (−0.58%), Dow 52,064 (−0.60%), Nasdaq 26,082 (−0.65%). CME FedWatch colour cited into Friday still puts September hike odds in the roughly 70% class after hot PPI and the earlier oil spike — event markets lean a touch softer, but the futures-implied dial is what CPI will reprice.

This morning’s live brief mapped Brent toward $110 on a live Hormuz-and-Red-Sea shipping shock — overnight Yahoo near $108.52 after a Reuters high near $109.97 — with S&P futures near 7,602, Nasdaq futures near 29,064, Dow futures near 52,179, FTSE’s Thursday close near 10,609, Asia sold hard (Nikkei about −2.8%), euro near 1.1609, sterling near 1.3504, and VIX near 17.84. That piece stays up. What is new into the reopen is the sharp oil fade toward ~$103.5, Europe’s cash recovery, a unified green US futures book, UK July GDP printing hotter than the flat/soft house range, and Oracle’s AI-cloud beat lifting mega-cap colour while Adobe softens on guidance — all still under an unprinted August CPI at ~13:30 BST.

What changed

Four tape changes matter more than the overnight sketch. First, Brent did not hold the $110 scare into London lunch — it offered roughly five dollars from the morning Yahoo park, and WTI slipped back through $100 toward ~$99. Second, Europe cash flipped from Thursday’s soft closes: FTSE 100 near 10,674, DAX near 25,538, EURO STOXX 50 near 6,317. Third, US equity futures are no longer little-changed — they are attempting a coordinated bounce under the oil fade, with Nasdaq leading after Oracle. Fourth, ONS printed July UK GDP at +0.4% month-on-month (services +0.4%, production +0.2%, construction +0.1%), beating the flat-to-soft consensus class that framed the London open — a growth overlay, not a stagflation stamp, into the US inflation dial.

Biggest US story

The biggest US market story into the bell is still CPI day — August consumer prices at ~13:30 BST / 08:30 ET as the final top-tier inflation bridge into next week’s 15–16 September FOMC — now under a softer oil floor than London woke to. Consensus class colour still leans toward roughly +0.4% month-on-month headline and +3.4% year-on-year, with core watched near +0.2% month-on-month / ~2.4% year-on-year. Gasoline and energy are the headline risk; core is the Fed dial. Soft core that knocks September hike odds clearly back below 50% is the relief path. Hot core — or a headline markets read as energy feeding consumer prices — hardens the roughly 70% hike case into FOMC and can unwind this morning’s oil-fade equity bounce. New York size is the referee for whether a ~$103–$104 Brent floor and a green futures book survive the print, or whether the overnight $110 scare gets a second vote.

Stocks

Premarket US futures into the bell: ES ~7,639, NQ ~29,310, YM ~52,380, RTY ~2,910. Versus this morning’s London park (ES ~7,602 / NQ ~29,064 / YM ~52,179), the book is firmer across the board — a recovery attempt after four cash sessions of losses, not a new bull thesis. Oracle is the clearest single-name lift: after the close Thursday it beat on revenue (~$19.3bn) and non-GAAP EPS (~$1.92), booked more than $30bn of additional AI cloud contracts, and lifted remaining performance obligations / backlog to about $664bn versus a ~$640bn estimate class. Yahoo extended/fullday colour marks ORCL near $163.37 (about +6.7% versus Thursday’s $152.94 cash close) after the AI-cloud backlog beat; Reuters earlier stamped roughly +5.5% premarket. Adobe is the other side of the AI earnings split: Q3 revenue ~$6.76bn and non-GAAP EPS ~$6.13 beat, but softer Q4 revenue guidance and leadership-transition colour leave ADBE’s Yahoo fullday print near $238.36 (about −4.2% versus Thursday’s $248.83 cash close). That is stock-specific colour under a macro CPI lead — not a reason to invent a broad tech regime change before the print.

FTSE 100 near 10,674 has recovered Thursday’s ~10,609 cash close into the US handoff — energy still oil-tethered while banks and rate-sensitives trade the gilt and Fed-odds channel. DAX near 25,538 and EURO STOXX 50 near 6,317 keep Frankfurt and the euro-area book firmer than Thursday’s soft stamps. Asia’s overnight handoff was the hard sell (Nikkei near 63.4k, about −2.8%; Hang Seng near 24.7k, about −2.1%) and does not rewrite Europe’s lunch recovery.

FX

The dollar index near 99.18 is a touch firmer than this morning’s ~99.14 park — mild, not a blow-off, even with September hike odds still in the ~70% class. Debt and policy uncertainty still cap how far the dollar runs on hawkish Fed reprice alone before CPI decides.

EUR/USD near 1.1597 is a shade softer than this morning’s ~1.1609. ECB already hiked 25bp to a 2.50% deposit rate on Thursday; oil-driven inflation risk and today’s US CPI keep the path two-way around 1.1550–1.1650 until the print lands.

GBP/USD near 1.3507 is little changed versus this morning’s ~1.3504 despite the UK GDP beat — hot US inflation odds and the earlier oil scare still cap a clean sterling rally through the 1.3450–1.3550 band until CPI clears.

USD/JPY near 153.93 is a firmer yen than this morning’s ~154.36 — still well below last week’s mid-156s. Do not invent intervention from a Yahoo print alone; BoJ pace colour into next week remains the sidebar, not today’s lead.

Bonds

US 10-year last marked near 4.944% on Yahoo — firmer than Wednesday’s ~4.837% cash stamp — with the 30-year near 5.361% and the 5-year near 4.733%. Reuters overnight colour had the long end probing multi-year highs near ~4.97% / ~5.38% as September hike odds climbed. Hot PPI Thursday, the earlier oil spike, and a still-elevated FedWatch dial want a floor under yields into CPI. Soft core that knocks hike odds clearly back below 50% remains the cleanest duration relief before the 15–16 September FOMC. A hot core print under even a faded oil floor can retest the psychological 5% 10-year handle New York already flirted with overnight.

Commodities

Brent near $103.53 on Yahoo (~11:53 BST) after this morning’s ~$108.52 park and Reuters’ overnight high near $109.97 — a clear fade of the $110 scare into the US handoff, even while Hormuz transit colour and Red Sea / Mocha risk remain live geopolitics. WTI near $98.88 versus morning ~$103.21. Same shipping regime, cooler price into CPI. A durable hold back through ≥$105 into the cash session would re-thicken the inflation-floor tell; any further offer through $100 without fresh tanker headlines is the fade tell New York is already trading.

Gold futures near $4,382 versus morning ~$4,347 — a partial reclaim of overnight weakness, still below Thursday’s ~$4,407 prior. Silver near $64.39. Natural gas near $2.80. Crypto (BTC near $76.9k) stays secondary under $80k.

Catalysts

Times in BST.

~13:30 — US CPI (August) and real earnings — the session dial. Headline consensus class ~0.4% m/m / ~3.4% y/y; core watched ~0.2% m/m / ~2.4% y/y. Makes or breaks the roughly 70% September hike case under a softer oil floor than London opened to.

~15:00 — University of Michigan preliminary September sentiment and inflation expectations — secondary read on household inflation psychology after the CPI print.

15–16 Sep — FOMC — next policy referee after today’s inflation bridge. Fed blackout remains in force. Hormuz and Red Sea headlines can still gap crude outside London hours.

Levels

Reference areas, not targets.

Brent ~$103.53 (morning ~$108.52 / overnight high ~$109.97; Thu settle ~$107.63).

WTI ~$98.88 (morning ~$103.21).

Gold futures ~$4,382 (morning ~$4,347; Thu prior ~$4,407).

US 10-year ~4.944% (Reuters overnight ~4.97%); 30-year ~5.361%; 5-year ~4.733%.

EUR/USD ~1.1597; GBP/USD ~1.3507; USD/JPY ~153.93; DXY ~99.18.

ES ~7,639 (morning ~7,602); NQ ~29,310 (morning ~29,064); YM ~52,380 (morning ~52,179); RTY ~2,910.

FTSE 100 ~10,674; DAX ~25,538; EURO STOXX 50 ~6,317.

VIX ~17.23; FedWatch September hike ~70% class colour. UK July GDP +0.4% MoM (ONS). ORCL premarket bid after AI-cloud backlog beat; ADBE softer on guidance.

The tape into the US cash bell is quieter on oil than this morning’s $110 map and louder on the inflation print that still has not landed. Brent has faded toward ~$103.5; Europe has recovered Thursday’s soft cash; US futures are attempting a coordinated bounce with Oracle lifting Nasdaq colour; UK GDP printed a firm +0.4% rather than the soft open many houses framed. The 10-year still sits under a roughly 70% September hike case, and August CPI at ~13:30 BST is the referee for whether this oil-fade recovery sticks or the overnight scare gets a second vote into FOMC week. That is sticky policy risk under a cooler energy print — not a panic unwind — and New York size is the referee. This is Samuel & Co Trading’s assessment of the tape, not a call to buy or sell anything.

What would change the view is straightforward. Soft US core CPI that knocks September odds clearly back below 50% without another tanker or Mocha shock would let the overnight oil-led selloff reprice unwind stick and ease the 5% yield test. Hot core — or a headline pop markets read as energy feeding consumer prices — would harden the hike case into FOMC and can sell the green futures book even if Brent stays off $110. A Hormuz or Red Sea re-spike that drives Brent back through $105–$110 into the US session would thicken the inflation-floor case regardless of a mild core print. The other way: a further oil fade through $100 with calmer shipping headlines that softens the energy premium into the Fed blackout. A UK GDP beat that fails to lift sterling into a hot US CPI would rewrite the cable story for the London afternoon as a Fed-odds trade, not a growth trade.

Markets to watch: August CPI versus the ~70% hike case; Brent and shipping headlines around $100–$105 into the cash bell; whether US cash copies Europe’s recovery or fades it after the print; the US 10-year around 4.95–5.00%; GBP/USD around 1.345–1.355; FTSE energy-versus-banks as London hands the baton; Oracle versus Adobe as the AI earnings split under the macro lead. Geopolitical headlines can gap crude outside London hours — none of that is a reason to size up.
